Grown Purpose – By Mercedes Knight

Sometimes it’s choosing to stay present. Choosing to remain rooted. Choosing to speak your truth anyway.

Barbados

As long as the thrum between ribs

The persistent pressure

The calculated conscious

As long as I’m my own

With breath and life to speak of.

As long as laughter is alive in the hollow

And voices of pain pierce the surface

The rival of resistance coming to

As long as I know

And too am present

As long as I am allowed the gift of sowing spirit.

I will continue to be seated truthfully in this.
